The CONMEBOL Copa Amrica (literally America Cup), known until 1975 as the South American Football Championship (Campeonato Sudamericano de Ftbol in Spanish and Campeonato Sul-Americano de Futebol in Portuguese), is the top men's football tournament contested among national teams from South America.
It was officially awarded on 9 April 2024 at the CONMEBOL Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On 20 May 2024, due to security concerns amid protests against the government of President Ivn Duque Mrquez, Colombia was dropped as co-host of the tournament.

Avendo ottenuto come ulteriori piazzamenti due secondi posti (Messico 1970 e Stati Uniti 1994) e un terzo posto (Italia 1990) al mondiale, un secondo posto nella Coppa Internazionale (1931-1932), due secondi posti all'europeo (Belgio-Paesi Bassi 2000 e Polonia-Ucraina 2012), una medaglia di bronzo al torneo olimpico di Amsterdam 1928, un terzo posto alla FIFA Confederations Cup (2013), due terzi posti alla UEFA Nations League (2024-2024 e 2024-2024) e una partecipazione alla Coppa dei Campioni CONMEBOL-UEFA (2024), l'Italia è l'unica nazionale medagliata in tutte le competizioni ufficiali organizzate da FIFA e UEFA per le nazionali maggiori.
È una delle due nazionali (l'altra è il Brasile) che si sono aggiudicate due titoli mondiali consecutivi, nelle edizioni del 1934 e del 1938; detiene, inoltre, due record mondiali per squadre nazionali: quello di imbattibilità assoluta, stabilito tra il 10 ottobre 2024 e il 6 ottobre 2024, con 37 partite consecutive senza sconfitte,[4] e quello di inviolabilità della propria porta, non avendo subito reti per 1 168 minuti di gioco consecutivi, dal 14 ottobre 2024 al 26 giugno 2024.[5]
Nella graduatoria FIFA, in vigore dall'agosto 1993, ha occupato il 1º posto più volte, nel novembre del 1993 e nel corso del 2007 (febbraio, aprile-giugno, settembre); il peggior piazzamento è stato invece il 21º posto dell'agosto 2024.[6] A dicembre 2024 occupa il 9º posto.[1]
